RF - Radio Frequency.

RFID - Radio frequency identification

ROI - See Return on investment.

Rac - A single or multi-level structural storage system that is utilized to support high stacking of single items or palletized loads

Rack decking - See Decking.

Rack supported building - A complete independent storage rack system which is the basic structural system of a building. A storage or warehouse facility in which storage rack functions as the structural support for the roof.

Radio frequency - A communication medium by which motor and controls are directed by means of high and low frequency radio transmission directives. Often referred to as a Wireless Controls.

Rated capacity - The maximum load which can be applied according to the manufacturer's specification.

Rated load capacity - The maximum load for which the equipment is designed by the manufacturer.

Return on investment - A management tool that calculates the income of a material handling investment or project and divides this income by the cost of the assets devoted to the investment or project. A valuable tool when calculating the "economic justification" of a material handling investment.>

Robots - See Pick and place industrial robot.

Roller conveyor - A series of roller supported in a frame over which objects are advanced manually, by gravity, or by power.

Roller belt conveyor - A powered form of conveyor where the transporting belt is supported by rollers spaced along the frame, not unlike a gravity roller section. Power and forward motion is transferred by utilizing a moving belt powered by a pulley and motor configuration at one end of the section. Capable of handling rather heavy loads.

Rotary rack - A rotary rack is a special variation of a horizontal carousel. In this case each vertical level or storage location is mechanically independent of the location above or beneath it. Each level in turn is driven by a separate and independent drive. Therefore, simultaneous, independent rotation of each level is possible (in any direction). Although replenishment and picking can be accomplished manually, most rotary racks incorporate automatic load inserters and extractors. See also Horizontal Carousels and/or AS/RS.
